Please Mr. Postman

Yesterday, when we were pulling into the driveway, after church, I said, "We sure do need a new mailbox." Of course, being the man that he is, D asked, "What's wrong with ours?" Well, for starters, the flag is about to fall off. Then the entire mailbox, looks like it is about to come off of the wooden post. So, I think we need to make a trip to look at new mailboxes. This website does have more than just mailboxes, so check it out. I have fun browsing.

This one is neat, I like the little planters.

The sidemailbox is different, so I really like it.

This one would be great! It alerts you with this little flag, so you know you have mail.

And if only this one would come in Auburn!

Great Christmas Gift

I think it was last Christmas, Danny got Mom, one really romantic, thoughtful gift....A kitchen sink! I told her when she got it, that next Christmas he would probably install it. Sure enough, it is still sitting, propped up against the wall, in the catch all room. But honestly, why would a man go down the kitchen sinks isle & think to himself, "This is the perfect gift for my wife.?" It would be a pretty good gift, if it was installed! Hahaha!

Football Season

Football season is in full swing. I was watching a show one day about college football fanatics & they said that Tennessee football has some of the most passionate fans... Maybe so. But they surely haven't been to Alabama before & seen this hysteria that goes on around here, between Alabama & Auburn fans. Time seems to stand still when they play. Cars are drenched in the colors are the favorite team. There are even house divided paraphernalia. If you want to see some crazy football fans, make a trip down here.

Neighbors

I think my neighbor may be putting his house up for sale or his daughter is a realtor. There are a few "for sale" signs behind his house, leaning up next to the shed. Even though, he's a strange fellow, and there for awhile, he was taking his anger out on our garbage can. We really never see him. And it makes me a bit nervous to think of having new neighbors, especially if they are like some of the other neighbors we have. I haven't ever lived anywhere, where we were friendly with the neighbors, not that we didn't want to be, it's just the neighbors we had, didn't want to be neighborly to us. That is something I would love though, to live in a friendly neighborhood, where you can sit on each others porch, sipping sweet tea & talking about life or baking cookies & sharing them.

Go Green

I have a green thumb & seem to be able to get just about anything to grow. But there are some out there, that kill anything green they get their hands on. But I think everyone should have some greenery in their homes, that's where silk trees come in handy. They are also great for work places as well. We have quite alot of them at church. We do have some real plants in the office that have seemed to flourish since I've been there. Silk plants are also good if you have pets & aren't sure about what is poisonous or not.

Intervention

Does anyone watch this show?
I do, whenever I remember it's on. It used to come on Sunday nights & now it comes on Friday nights. I find myself in tears lot of the times, when I watch. I always love to see how they have changed their lives after drug treatment centers.
Every episode is different & the addiction isn't always the same, but seeing families & friends come together to try to save a loved one is incredible to witness.
If you haven't ever watched this show give it a try.

Spicing Things Up

Every marriage could use some spicing up and one way for doing that is with sexy lingerie. I was out buying a gift for a lingerie shower a couple of weeks ago and saw so much stuff that I wanted. One thing that I think is pretty awesome is when a husband brings home some sexy stuff for his wife. Flowers die. Chocolate adds the pounds. But a cute nightie is a gift that keeps on giving. *wink wink*

Broadway Shows

I love, love, love, plays. And it is a dream of mine to see an actual Broadway show. As a kid, for field trips, we would go to the local "Children's Theater" and I would sit in awe, of the production.

If I lived in NYC, I would go to shows, alot. Thankfully, the shows tour & someday I will go to a Broadway show. I want some Wicked tickets for sure. I remember when it debuted back in 2003.

This is what the play is about...

Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years.

Pop Pop Pop

One of the best things about going to the theater is the smell of buttered popcorn.
There just is not anything like it. I am a big fan of popcorn & always have been. Mom used to always make popcorn for me, when I was going to watch a movie at home. Of course back in the day, there was nosuch thing as microwave popcorn, you had to have a stove top popper, or a special popcorn popper. Who would have thought then, that someday you could purchase personal popcorn machines, for that perfect movie popcorn.

Didn't I Just Go There?

Seems like yesterday I was going to Disney. I was actually 5 years old, when I went to Disney World & I can still remember so much about that magical trip to a child's dream. I know that things have changed so very much in the last 25 years, at Disney World, but one thing I know that is still there is Cinderella's castle.

D & I need to look into some Orlando vacation rental & take a trip there.

Here I am in front of the castle, along with my sisters & cousin Brian.

A Redo

I have several pieces of furniture that I want to redo, ya know?....Paint, refinish, all that jazz. I will be in need of some new cabinet hardware, on most of the pieces, so I have been looking for what I want. Of course, I want something unique & not like everyone else has. There are just so many knobs & pulls to choose from! It is insane. Plus, I like so many different kind of style, my taste is very eclectic, I can't just go in one direction.

I did find Mom this very cute knob though.

A Little Hobby Fun

When I was a kid I was in awe of RC helicopters, planes & cars. When D & I were dating, I remember us going into a hobby store & him showing me some remote control things he would love to have someday. I totally forgot about it until, I got this assignment. It would be a total shock for D to get one of these for Christmas or his birthday. It sure is something to consider. I love to surprise him, but it is really hard for me to keep a secret from him.

Jewelry Makes The Outfit

I used to really be into wearing a ring on every finger & cute necklaces. Then I was all about tons of bracelets. For the last 5 or 6 years, I have been a jewelry minimalist, just my wedding ring & the earrings I never changed. But the world of costume jewelry is really opening up to me. There are just some awesome pieces put there. Now when I shop, I am not bypassing the jewelry section, it is a place I want to be sure to browse. Sometimes I even go there first! I do now, believe that the right jewelry does make the outfit.

Surrendering Your Marriage
By Melanie Chitwood

"Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the One who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!" Proverbs 3:5-7. (The Message)

Devotion:
It seems that the longer I've been married, more and more frequently I hear of struggling Christian marriages. I know these couples never intended to be in such a desperate place. When they said their wedding vows of "for better or worse," they never imagined that the "worse" part would include thoughts of divorce appearing as a good option.

When I hear about these couples, I turn my thoughts toward my own marriage. I hug my husband tightly and whisper prayers of thanksgiving that we are together, committed, and growing closer.

You see, this hasn't always been the case for us. For about half of our fifteen years of marriage, we fought constantly and although we loved each other passionately, we just couldn't figure out how to be married or how to be a couple.

Finally, in desperation, I cried out to God asking Him what I should do. His answer surprised me. In the still, small voice in my heart, God told me to surrender my marriage to Him. I knew that the key to surrendering my marriage was trusting God. Instead of trying to be in control by telling my husband and God what to do, I learned to set my eyes on Christ and to ask Christ what He wanted me to do in my marriage.
Since that day, I have focused on being the kind of wife God wants me to be. I have searched the Scriptures, and one step at a time I have obeyed God's commands for being a godly wife.

Many times it has felt like two steps forward and one step back. But that's still progress! God has transformed our marriage into one of friendship, intimacy, and laughter, instead of the strife-filled marriage we had previously experienced.

God knows all about your marriage. He knows all about you. He knows all about your husband. Your marriage is a gift from Him, and can bring God glory and you joy when you surrender your marriage to Him. Start today by trusting God, and see what happens as you allow God to transform your marriage.

Dear Lord, thank you for my husband and my marriage. I want the marriage You want me to have, Lord. I confess that I've tried to make it into what I want it to be, not necessarily what You want. I surrender myself and my marriage into Your loving hands and Your sovereign Lordship. Give me the desire and strength to be the kind of wife You want me to be. Then I know I'll be the wife my husband needs. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Power Verses:
1 Peter 4:8, "Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins" (NLT).

Proverbs 3:27, "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due when it is in your power to do it" (NAS).
Ephesians 4:32, "And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you" (AMP).
2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline" (NAS).

Mailbox

I have been looking at new mail boxes & this site has some pretty cool ones. We need a new one pretty badly. The flag is about to fall off of ours & we have trouble with the mail person & UPS man finding us. I would like to have a mail box that has our house # displayed very largely. And possibly our last name, I'm not sure about the name though. I have never thought buying cbu mailboxes before, so it's kinda of exciting to pick one out.

Life In The Desert

I have been to Arizona a few times. Some of those were for actual visits to Phoenix & others were just passing through on my journey somewhere else. But every time I have had the honor of passing through that state, I also enjoy it. I really love the desert. Sure it is hot out there, but it is a completely different thing from the humidity of the South. One thing I love to make sure to take a look at is the different architecture. The Scottsdale real estate, is incredibly beautiful, with stucco & tile roofs. It is something to definitely experience.

Of all the places in Florida that I would like to live, if given the chance, is Orlando.
Orlando real estate, has a lot to offer, in a wide variety of price ranges. Can you imagine living there? I bet you would never get bored, that is for sure. Sea World, Epcot, Hard Rock Cafe, Disney World, Flea Markets, tons of spas & countless places to shop, how could you go wrong? The first place I think I would go is to have dinner at my new neighbor, Cinderella's castle.

Baby Wearing

I found this top 10 reasons for using baby slings & I thought I would share it.

1. Wearing a baby is convenient.

When we carry a baby in a sling, we can walk around freely and not have to worry about negotiating steps, crowds or narrow aisles with a stroller. Plastic "baby buckets" and removable car seats are heavy and awkward for parents, babies often look uncomfortable, and they are kept at knee level. A sling can block out excess stimuli when breastfeeding a distractible baby, and it allows for discreet nursing in public places. A sling can also double as a changing pad, blanket, or cushion when away from home. I've found my sling especially handy when negotiating busy airports with a small child and several bags!

2. Wearing a baby promotes physical development.

When a baby rides in a sling attached to his mother, he is in tune with the rhythm of her breathing, the sound of her heartbeat, and the movements his mother makes – walking, bending, and reaching. This stimulation helps him to regulate his own physical responses, and exercises his vestibular system, which controls balance. The sling is in essence a "transitional womb" for the new baby, who has not yet learned to control his bodily functions and movements. Research has shown that premature babies who are touched and held gain weight faster and are healthier than babies who are not. Mechanical swings and other holding devices do not provide these same benefits.

3. Babies worn in slings are happier.

Studies have shown that the more babies are held, the less they cry and fuss. In indigenous cultures where baby-wearing is the norm, babies often cry for only a few minutes a day – in contrast to Western babies, who often cry for hours each day. Crying is exhausting for both the baby and his parents, and may cause long-term damage as the baby's developing brain is continually flooded with stress hormones. Babies who do not need to spend their energy on crying are calmly observing and actively learning about their environment. Baby-wearing is especially useful for colicky or "high need" babies, who are far happier being worn, but placid, content babies and children will also benefit greatly from the warmth and security of being held close.

3. Babies worn in slings are happier.

Studies have shown that the more babies are held, the less they cry and fuss2. In indigenous cultures where baby-wearing is the norm, babies often cry for only a few minutes a day – in contrast to Western babies, who often cry for hours each day. Crying is exhausting for both the baby and his parents, and may cause long-term damage as the baby's developing brain is continually flooded with stress hormones.3 Babies who do not need to spend their energy on crying are calmly observing and actively learning about their environment. Baby-wearing is especially useful for colicky or "high need" babies, who are far happier being worn, but placid, content babies and children will also benefit greatly from the warmth and security of being held close.

4. Baby-wearing is healthy for you!

It can be challenging for new mothers to find time to exercise, but if you carry your baby around with you most of the day or go for a brisk walk with your baby in her sling, you will enjoy the dual benefits of walking and "weightlifting". A long walk in the sling is also an excellent way to help a tired but over-stimulated child fall asleep.

5. Toddlers appreciate the security of the sling.

Slings are usually associated with infants, but they can be very useful for toddlers as well; most slings accommodate children up to 35 or 40 pounds. The world can be a scary place for toddlers, who feel more confident when they can retreat to the security of the sling when they need to do so. Toddlers often become over-stimulated, and a ride in the sling helps to soothe and comfort them before (or after!) a "melt-down" occurs. It can be very helpful in places like the zoo, aquarium, or museum, where a small child in a stroller would miss many of the exhibits.

6. Baby-wearing helps you and your baby to communicate with each other.
The more confidence we have in our parenting, the more we can relax and enjoy our children. A large part of feeling confident as a parent is the ability to read our baby's cues successfully. When we hold our baby close in a sling, we become finely attuned to his gestures and facial expressions. Many baby-wearing parents report that they have never learned to distinguish their baby's cries – because their babies are able to communicate effectively without crying! Every time a baby is able to let us know that she is hungry, bored or wet without having to cry, her trust in us is increased, her learning is enhanced, and our own confidence is reinforced. This cycle of positive interaction enhances the mutual attachment between parent and child, and makes life more enjoyable for everyone.

7. Slings are a bonding tool for fathers, grandparents, and other caregivers.
Slings are a useful tool for every adult in a baby's life. It makes me smile when I see a new father going for a walk with his baby in a sling. The baby is becoming used to his voice, heartbeat, movements and facial expressions, and the two are forging a strong attachment of their own. Fathers don't have the automatic head-start on bonding that comes with gestation, but that doesn't mean they can't make up for this once their baby is born. The same goes for babysitters, grandparents and all other caregivers. Cuddling up close in the sling is a wonderful way to get to know the baby in your life, and for the baby to get to know you!

8. Slings are a safe place for a child to be.Instead of running loose in crowded or dangerous places, a child in a sling is held safe and secure right next to your body. Slings also provide emotional safety when needed, so that children can venture into the world and become independent at their own pace.

9. Slings are economical.Slings cost far less than strollers, front-carriers or backpacks. Many mothers consider the sling to be one of their most useful and economical possessions.

10. Baby-wearing is fun.
Who doesn't love to cuddle a precious little baby? And when your baby is older, having her in the sling makes conversations easier and allows you to observe her reactions to the wonders of the world around her. It's also fun for baby, because when she is up at eye level, other adults notice and interact with her more. Your child will feel more a part of your life when she is in her sling, and you will find yourself becoming more and more enchanted with this special little person.

Interesting Stuff

I am sure Mom is going to like learning about this item, since she is a closet nurse. Hahaha. Do you know what a pulse oximeter is?

It is a medical device that measures the amount of oxygen in a patient's blood and changes in blood volume in the skin, producing a photoplethysmograph (big word, huh?). It is often attached to a medical monitor so someone can see the patient's oxygenation at all times. Most of the monitors also display the heart rate.

Making The Yard Nice

I was really getting into making my yard look nice. I cleaning out some of the flower beds, planted a few things & then it got hot. And we have been in a stage 3 draught for pretty much the entire Summer. Water the plants & yard, was put on hold. We give the plants a drink twice a week, but I'm not someone that is selfish enough to let me sprinklers run for hours, when I know that our water tanks are low. So, I hope to get the yard into shape, when the weather cools off. And one thing I would love to add, would be some landscape lighting. I think they add such charm to the look of a home.

Announcements

I always think it is fun to receive announcements & invites in the mail. Not necessarily because I am invited to something, but because I like to see the creativity of the stationary. Some people don't put much time into them. While others go all out.

D & I did not send out engagement announcements or wedding invites, because we weren't engaged very long & got married only 5 months after meeting. But if I were to send out something this is one that I really like.

Since we had such a small wedding & none of my family, except Mom came to it, we have talked about renewing our vows, on our 10th wedding anniversary or something. We would have a grand shin-ding.

Old School

I don't know what the latest & greatest tennis shoe are now. I guess I am just outta that loop, but I do remember when everyone & their Momma had to have Air Jordans. I never had a pair, but I would be lying if I said I didn't want a pair back in the day. They made their debut in 1985. There was one time, that Keith wanted a pair really badly & I guess Mom was wanting to win some brownie points with him. So, she took him to the mall & he came back a $150 pair of them! I was in utter shock & very jealous. To this day, I still haven't owned a $150 pair of shoes. Air Jordans are now considered collector items. I wonder how much Keith's would be worth now?

Life Insurance

Life insurance, is not something that any of us want to have to think about. But death is apart of the cycle of life, no matter how devastating it is. But think about how much more stress, it would be to leave your family, with all the cost of a burial. It is not cheap. And it is always better to be prepared. You may want to save your loved ones from the thought of death, but what a gift you would giving them to have all your affairs in order for that sad day.

BEST PART OF SUMMER!

My most favorite thing and probably my ONLY favorite thing about summer is the wonderful produce. I can't seem to get enough watermelon and grapes.

Danny and I bought groceries yesterday and the grapes were so sweet (the reason I know this is because I will eat one before I buy them) and I couldn't decide between the black, green or red so.........I bought all three.

Later that evening Mercy came to spend some time with her Poppa and I and we had a grape tasting. We decided to put one of each ( red, green and black) in our mouth and once to see what it tasted like. WOW!! It was sooooo good. The black ones were very soft, the red with their crunch and the big juicy green ones in one bite was so GOOD!!!!! Mercy was handing them to her Poppa and I as well as feeding them to herself as fast as she could pick them.

Gotta Pack

Seeing as how, I'm apparently doing all of this traveling & moving all over the country, I think I need some luggage. I really do need some good luggage, I have a bunch of mismatched stuff, that I've collected over the years. The last few times, I've gone on a trip, I've borrowed Mom's luggage. To be honest, it's another thing, that I tend to look at while out wondering the stores. It catches my eye, especially if it's a fun or different color/pattern. I found this Samsonite luggage & you sure wouldn't loose this as easily as the normal black bag. I like it!

Let's Take A Trip

I saw a special the other day about the best theme park food in the nation. Dollywood, in the Great Smokey Mountains, was one of the highest rated. Instead of always going to the beach, why not take a trip up to Tennessee? I looked into some Pigeon Forge vacation rentals. These places are super nice & an added bonus, my "kids" can go too, since it's pet friendly.

On The Move

While taking a nap today, I had a dream that D decided that we were moving. There was no reason, he just wanted to go. He hired a moving company, but had no idea where we were going. All I knew is that it wasn't back to California. I was extremely upset in the dream. I was crying & confused as to his decision. D ended up waking me, to watch Big Brother & the first thing I said to him was, "Thank you for waking me from that awful dream!" Later I told him about it & asked him, if he decided to just up & move us, where would it be. Colorado was his pick (I already knew that, but wanted to see if it had changed). So, I looked at some real estate out there. If he moved me to this house, I wouldn't cry or be confused.

That is a dream of mine, to own a good piece of land, with a big farm house & a barn. I would have lots of pigmy goats & 1 pot bellied pig named Talullah. She would wear a pink tu-tu & a princess crown. I would also have a huge inground pool. Oh....I hope it comes true.

Finally putting her to REST!!!

I have been sewing since I was 10 years old. I have made alot of Crystal's Easter dresses when she was little with matching Easter baskets, I have made wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, flower-girl dresses, Christening Gowns, baby clothes, doll clothes, bathing suits (men and women) slip covers for furniture as well as for equipment and game boards, purses, diaper bags, costumes (many of these), custom made curtains, bedspreads, dovet covers, linens, cushions, pillows, lamp shades, tote bags, suit-cases, bible covers, table clothes, night gowns, housecoats, dolls, stuffed animals. I have repaired all kinds of things from replacing zippers in jeans to coats, hemmed jeans to wedding gowns, altered wedding gowns to mens suits. I have even done free-hand monogramming. You name it, I've done it. This use to be my passion, but..............for some reason it no longer is. I am burned out I think. I almost despise it. I have 22 slip covers to make for the bus for our Senior Citizens at Church and when that is finished and a few other alterations I have already got promised are taken care of, She will be put to sleep until the urge hits me again.

I'm not saying Good-bye to Her, just See-ya-later!!

My New Adventure!!!

I am in the process of possibly having a 'Tummy-Tuck'. I went to see the plastic surgeon in April and had my evaluation exam and headless Glamour shots made. heheThey told me that I would have to have my other doctors (the one who did my gastric by-pass, my GYN and my General Practitioner) opinion on whether they think that I really need this or not. I was in the process of finding me a new GP and with D (son-in-law) having his back surgery, I sorta put things on the back burner. I've been watching a new show on TLC called BIG MEDICINE and it has made me decide to go forth and bring it to the front burner and get the balls rolling once again.

My GP did a complete blood work up and he said that it was PERFECT!!! I fell AMAZING! I haven't lost any more weight since Christmas but I have lost inches. I work out on my Cross-Bow (Bow-flex competitor) and I ride 2 miles on my bike, 3 or 4 times a week plus my floor stretches (which I LOVE). I don't really care if I lose anymore weight or not. My thing is this sagging skin on my belly. They call it a Apron. I want it gone. With that done I will be able to buy pants that fit better.

I went today to the surgeon who did my by-pass and he gave me a THUMBS UP on the surgery. He said that I was doing AWESOME and to keep up the good work. He wasn't concerned with me losing more weight either. If I do , fine, if I don't , fine!!

Tomorrow I go see my GP to get his opinion and next Tuesday I have an appointment with my GYN to get his. From there it will be up to the insurance company to see if and what they will cover. I'm hoping for a speedy Y E S !!!!!!!

I am so EXCITED!!!!!

Staci's Challenge!!

Staci gave out a challenge and I decided to participate. She asked for the most UNIQUE (being the only one of its kind; being without an equal; unparalleled) thing in our Home. I have a lot of unique things in my home including ME but... she said that it could not be a person so I had to look for the most unique thing. Well this is what I choose: A 'Columbian Leg-Vise'!!! Not everyone has one of these laying in their bedroom floor.
A Leg-Vise is a blacksmith tool. It is one of the most important tools in the blacksmith shop. It firmly holds hot iron while it is being hammered, chiseled ot twisted. This particular one belonged to my husbands Grand-daddy, who was a blacksmith.
THANK YOU to all you Veterans and active Military! I SALUTE You!!!!!!!

We are on our way to Cracker Barrel (one of our favorite restaurant/stores) to eat our Anniversary dinner. I said, "Smile Danny"! He said, "I'm smilin'"!
Danny bought me this sweatshirt at Cracker Barrel.

From there we went to Wal-Mart. We got him a couple of church shirts and one of them has lavender in it. (I love it), some work boots, some knitting yarn for me, a couple surprises for Mercy and a few groceries. That was how we celebrated our 21st Anniversary!!!

Auzzie Boy!!

Auzzie is such a ham!! He is saying new things all the time. For instance: Be sweet to me! Where you going? Be good!
There are a few more, but for some reason, I cannot remember them at this moment. I'm having a senior moment brain fart!! SORRY!!!!! The toy that hangs to the left of him is his HOOCHIE!! That is his girlfriend and she is covered in food because he feeds her. I have to take her out and let her soak every now and then to get the food off but he has a FIT when she is gone. He will chip-chip the whole time she is out. Sorry Auzzie but I think it is time for Hoochie to have a bath.

My Princess Ballerina!!

This is Mercy (my soon to be 4 yr. old Grand-baby) in her ballet costume. She loves her dancing classes. She has a recital in May. She is such a girlie girl. I think she has every princess costume that you can buy at Wal-Mart. Loves to dress up. She is such a JOY!!

Alterations!!

Sewing Machine I am in a alterations mad-house. I have 3 alterations needing to be done and my back has been out all week. One is a king-size silk comforter that I am adding a ruffle to and it has to be attached by hand after I gather it on the machine, A Mother-of -the -Bride formal that needs to be altered and a couple of tops for another client. I work better under pressure but this back thing is stressing me out. I am so far behind.

Men are SEXY in PINK!!

Yesterday was my and Danny's 21st Wedding Anniversary. We did not celebrate yesterday because both of our backs were out. OUCH!! We are going to try out get out and do a little something today.
This is our picture from our Valentine Dinner. After 2o years I convinced Danny that I LOVE men in pink. He now has 2 pink shirts (1-pink plaid and then this one) and he loves them. He would wear one or the other to church every Sunday if I didn't watch him.
I LOVE my little man!!!
